It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a weekly event hosted by Sheila at Book Journey to share with others what you've read the past week and planning to read next.
I have finished Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami. I'm going to review this book this week.
I started reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, which I bought used and got in the mail today.
Upcoming reads include White Oleander by Janet Fitch and The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall. I requested both from the library.
Last week I reviewed Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. You can read my review here.
I've seen so many comments over the years regarding Murakami's translators and to "only read those by Jay Rubin". I've been reading one of the short story collection with both translators and I really can't seem to see the difference. I'm looking forward to reading one of the full length Birnbaum translations now I've squashed that myth for myself!
ReplyDeleteSuch overlap, Sabrina! Of the 5 books you mention, I only haven't read Oscar Wao. The others I enjoyed a lot (except Little Women, that was OK).
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your review of Hard-Boiled!
Russian Concubine sounds good - enjoy your week :)
ReplyDeleteHope you love White Oleander as much as I did! I reread Little Women last year and enjoyed it as much as I did when I was a kid (and read it three or four times then!).
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Here's MY MONDAY MEMES POST
The Russian Concubine is a good read, plan on reading The Girl From Junchow (it's follow-up book) right away.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to finishing all of Murakami's work this year (hopefully!) with Hard Boiled World as one of them. I didn't like Oscar Wao, or White Oleander, so I hope they fare better for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start reading an Austin novel sometime this month - your reference to Little Women reminded me. I'm not sure where to start. I haven't had an interest in reading LIttle Women, the movie was enough for me. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
