Santa, please bring me BOOKS!

With Christmas only a few days ago The Broke and the Bookish asks us about the Top Ten Books We Hope Santa Brings.

Giving books to a person who reads much is difficult. Especially if you don't know what books are already on the person's shelves. That is why I ask for books I have on my wish list or gift vouchers for Christmas.

This year I asked Santa to bring the following books:

1. The Marrige Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides - I love Eugenides. He is an incredible author and wrote two of my favorite books The Virgin Suicides and Middlesex. I don't know much about this book, because I wanted to save the reading experience all to the time I settle down with this book in a cozy place, hot choclate in one hand book in the other and cat purring near me.

 2. The Secret History by Donna Tartt - This book was recommended to me by some shelfari friends who knew how much I enjoyed The Likeness by Tana French (review here). They compared the book to Donna Tartt's The Secret History, which I knew existed but not what it was about.

 3. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - I know the book gets a lot of hype lately and sometimes reading a book when the buzz slows down makes for the better reading experience... but I WANT this book. I am somehow very excited to read it and own it. I have the feeling that the book and me could become close friends in the future.

Have you read the books I mentioned above or have you listed books on your wish list? Which ones do you want for Christmas?

  2. I'm reading The Night Circus right now, and it is very much worth the hype! I borrowed it from the library, but I think it would be a very nice one to own in hard copy.

I would also like to read the Eugenides book. Middlesex is one of my all-time faves!

  3. Good choice! I also want to read The Marriage Ply. The other two I read and loved. Hope Santa will listen to you!

  4. oooh, I've read all three, which is fairly unusual for me in these posts. I loved The Night Circus, which I read twice this year, and I remember really, really liking A Secret History, but I read it about 15 years ago, so who can recall? And the Eugenides is really well written. I hope you get them all!

  5. Yes, giving books to a reader is difficult. My sister is a big reader so I ended up choosing a hardback (The Night Circus) as I know she usually waits for the paperbacks so won't have it yet. Fingers crossed anyway :)

The Marriage Plot is on my Christmas list, hope we both get it.

  7. Yeah I really hope I'll get them all. I mean I "only" asked for those three books explicitly. That's quite modest, right? ;)

  8. It is difficult to choose books for a reader, so I always ask for gift cards.

  11. I've got The Marriage Plot on my wishlist (a New Year treat to myself, perhaps?) and bought The Night Circus recently because I, like you, thought that it was just too pretty and had Too Much Potential to pass up. I'm hoping to read it over Christmas, wheee!

And lastly, The Secret History. Wow, what a book. I would never have picked it up if it hadn't been for a tiny book club I was part of years and years ago. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down, and I'm now about ready for my third re-reading - it's one of my favourite books of all time! So... hope you like that one.

Merry Christmas, hope Santa pulls through with some great books! :)
