2013 TBR Pile Challenge
I totally sucked at this challenge in 2012. I read a total of four books out of twelve and reviewed only three of those read. Nonetheless I'll take part again. On the one hand I like to generate the lists necessary for challenges on the other hand I really have a huge tbr pile. It's almost toppling over. And a new year is best to be started with some commitments. Here is one.
My committed list fellow book hoarders:
1. Freedom by Jonathan Franzen (2010)
2. The History of Love by Nicole Krauss (2005)
3. Rules of Civility by Amor Towles (2011)
4. Brooklyn by Colm Toibin (2009)
5. The Secret History by Donna Tartt (1992)
6. I know why the Caged Bird sings by Maya Angelou (1969)
7. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (1985)
8. Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier (2010)
9. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (1958)
10. Blindness by José Saramago (1995)
11. The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver (2009)
12. The Tiger's Wife by Téa Obreht (2011)
My two alternates:
I The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood (2009)
II The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood (2000)
This challenge is hosted by Adam and you can sign up here.

Glad you're back for 2013! You've got some on this list that I definitely could've added to my own (freedom, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Things Fall Apart)... I loved The Handmaid's Tale and I've also had The Blind Assassin on my shelf for a while (that was the first Atwood book I ever bought, but still haven't read it). I hear good things about The Lacuna... and I LOVED Blindness. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Adam! I really should read more Margaret Atwood. There should be a challenge for this out there.
DeleteI'm a fairly new subscriber to your blog and I'm very happy to see this list.
ReplyDeleteThere are 3 titles I've read, and 3 I want to, so our reading tastes must be somewhat similar. I'm looking forward to reading your posts!
Thanks for subscribing, Debbie. I'm off to find your blog, I love rummaging through blogs by people with a similar reading tastes. Good luck for your challenge.
DeleteGreat list, I'm looking forward to the reviews!
ReplyDeleteI loved Remarkable Creatures & The Handmaid's Tale. The Lacuna for me wasn't as good as Poisonwood Bible, but that was always going to be hard to beat.
Happy reading :)
Well, it would be my first Kingsolver book. And to be honest I already put it to a side once when I was a mere 30 or so pages into it. We'll see how it goes.
DeleteYou've got some great reading there. The History of Love is a personal favourite and I really enjoyed I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Blindness, and The Lacuna too. I'm signed up for this challenge too and I look forward to your reviews. Happy reading in 2013.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Sandra. I'm always thrilled to read that future books of mine are the favorites of other readers. Good luck to you too.
DeleteRe your suggestion: I have read and really liked Half of a Yellow Sun, which is why I want to read more of Adichie. Did you know her new novel Americanah is being released in February? I had to put Purple Hibiscus on this challenge list of course but I can't wait until the newest comes out too. Thanks for your suggestion and for visiting Fresh Ink Books.
DeleteThere are some nice choices there! The biggest problem with the TBR challenge is that I find so many more great books that my own TBR list keeps getting longer and longer.
